Virtually there...

We love to utilise different ways to explore during the design process. This may be good old fashion pen and paper or physical models but more commonly this now results in 3D modelling and virtual reality.

 VR enables us to test the spaces and see how rooms flow, how light and vistas are framed and how the building feels against the brief we have from our clients. It is also another string to the bow when explaining and testing designs with clients; giving them a really good idea of how different ideas, textures and arrangements look.

This video is an example of one of our recent projects. You can see how using the VR can really offer a feel of the flow of spaces and in this case how a specific staircase arrangement worked with the double height living space proposed.

As an art teacher, the client, had a great grasp of space and light and the importance of these in the rooms but struggled to translate a 2D CAD drawing into 3D in their mind. The VR headset enabled them to ‘walk’ through the rooms and see how the windows framed the views into the garden.

The process also allowed us to rapidly test prototype ideas for the staircase with the client in one workshop, enabling the project to keep moving forward with momentum.
