Conversion of former care home into six family homes in Sidmouth

New homes in East Devon

OCR Architecture have recently gained planning approval to convert a old care home into six family homes in the wonderful South Devon town of Sidmouth just a short walk away from the beach. The 42-bedroom care home had connected a series of homes together to form a large building with numerous extensions and links detracting from the original forms. We took an existing planning permission and stripped back the proposals to create six well proportioned four and five bed family homes.

Care was given to retain the original features were possible to minimise waste and also preserve character. By rationalising the original approach we were able to create designs that decreased the cost of the development and increased the saleable value of the properties ensuring the viability of the development for the developer.

As a practice our experience in commercial as well as residential design helped us asses the most efficient construction methods as well as developing a design that the local agents felt best suited the south Devon residential market.
