Contemporary new build family home

A beautiful new home on the Jurassic Coast with impressive eco-credentials

We were pleased to deliver this project from the early design and planning stages right through the construction phases to completion.

This elegant family home is a new build situated on a former Clinton Devon Estates site in the unspoilt Otter Valley of East Devon. The house has replaced an old dilapidated barn which was in an unsalvageable state.

The house is designed 'upside down' to make the most of space and topography of the site. It is organised around a  double height entrance hallway, flooding the property with a feeling of light and space.

Upstairs, the living area spills out onto the terraced landscaped gardens to the rear whilst the master bedroom suite and balcony enjoy leafy views at the front of the property.

Modern in construction, this house is clad on the upper floors in Western Red Cedar. The staggered roof incorporates a biodiverse green roof which ties in to the landscape around it. The remaining roof wall is designed to reduce building mass and to respond to the local street scene.

The scheme retained an old cob and brick boundary wall, which not only adds privacy and character, but created a courtyard garden space too.

Internally, there is a highly energy efficient air source heat system and mechanical ventilation heat recovery system, which combined with zoned underfloor heating and a high degree of insulation throughout, further boosts its low-carbon credentials.
